Flutiebear: Rambling My Way Through Thedas

Throughout the first several seasons, Dean wears a fat silver ring on his right hand, a ring that I assume is his father’s wedding ring, or some such.(It’s not Jensen’s wedding ring; that looks different, and besides it’s on the wrong hand anyway.) Here’s a good shot of it:

2014!Dean, however, wears no such ring:

And a closeup of his right hand (keep in mind that the two Deans are facing each other here, so their images are flipped, so this is in fact his right hand):

Curiously neither does Season 7 Dean:

But you know who DOES wear a curiously similar ring on his left hand?

Emmanuel:

Is Emmanuel wearing Dean’s ring? And if so, how did he get it—Dean must have given it to him, but why? And if he wasn’t wearing Dean’s ring, was the choice to buy this ring (or otherwise acquire it) somehow a subconscious gravitation toward things that remind him of Dean (like Daphne’s huge forest green eyes?)

Notably, Hospital!Cas doesn’t wear the ring though:

So where did it go? Dean still isn’t wearing it in the Season 8 trailer, and neither is Cas:

“Dean” got rid of the ring in S5 because Jensen was sick of it. Emmanuel has a ring because he is married (left hand). Cas doesn’t have a ring in the nut house, because he is no longer Emmanuel…

Jensen confirmed it at a Con. I’m not sure which one - but it kept cutting up his finger because it was in rough shape after five years. True about Lucifer’s ring - I guess the nuthouse just took Cas’ jewelry. :P

What happened to Dean’s ring? “There was an opportunity at the beginning of the season to kind of lose the jewelry. He lost his watch, he lost his uuhh…his necklace obviously went to Cas. Here’s the thing with the ring, the ring was a really, for me, it was Dean’s beer bottle opener. Whenever Dean opened a bottle it would just scrape off the ring, it got beat up.” He also cut himself apparently. “So once they were losing the watch and I was like, you know what, let’s get rid of the ring. This is the Apocalypse. So I just lost it, it was like let’s get rid of this we’ve had it on for 5 years” They got rid of it after episode 4 The End.

Still — it does leaves unanswered the question of why Emmanuel chose a ring that looked so similar to Dean’s… and where the wedding ring went after Cas went to the hospital. (Contrast that to Lucifer, who wears Nick’s wedding ring the entire time he wears Nick.)
