you know, my relationship to swan song in general tends to be a bit confusing to me, especially the ending of it. because it was meant to operate as a bookend to a 5 season long arc, right? but to me it kind of only partially accomplishes that, but it’s also kind of an ending that does work with season 6 to succeed it. so as an ending it’s a bit weird to say the least, and as a result my feelings towards it kind of fluctuate, because it actually works way better as a prologue to season 6 than as an epilogue to season 5 (but also a prologue that doesn’t make complete sense until at least 6.20).
These are things I’ve always felt but never knew how to articulate properly. And yet, you need Season 7 to properly resolve Season 6… which is exactly how a serialized show like Supernatural will be.
IMO, Dean’s question is the hook upon which Sera Gamble hung her hat. And while her tenure as showrunner wasn’t perfect (whose ever is?) I really,reallylike what she ultimately did with these ideas, and in many ways, I think what she achieved is even superior to the original 5 seasons.
