In the latest DA: Redemption episode, Tallis gleefully shows a mage collar to her Templar companion and says, “We Qunari know how to treat our animals.”

Oh, Tallis. Now I’ve finally decided how I feel about you.

And let me tell you: it ain’t the warm and fuzzies.

What. the actual. fuck. I don’t even know if I can even play MOTA in-character anymore. XD;;

I’m not entirely sure if I want to buy and play MotA at all ):

I just… wow.

O_O

Oh, Tallis. *shakes head*  Carver was right about you. Absolutely evil.

***

I’m willing to give her—and the series as a whole— a chance before I make a decision about how I feel about her. Because while this makes me want to RAGE, they may be setting her up for character development that we don’t know about.

I don’t want to spoil anyone, so I’ll just say that her behavior in MotA struck me as very different from her behavior in Redemption, so that’s the impression I’m getting—that her character is going to undergo some kind of growth, and the opinions she holds now may not be the same ones she ends up with. I don’t know if that makes it better, but I want to wait and decide how I feel after I’ve seen more.

Is it, though? She does dismiss Anders’s (IMO) very reasonable questions about Qunari treatment of mages, instead preferring to make that crack about wanting to sew Anders’s mouth shut. Which, yeah, whatever, Anders talks a lot. But that’s just kind of gross.

I wonder if it’s less that Tallis is indifferent to the mage plight, and more that she’s smart enough to keep her mouth shut when she’s outnumbered by them.

What? I didn’t hear that.

Does anyone have the exact quote?

The exact conversation can be heard in this banter vid, around the 8 min mark:

Anders: You realize the Qunari make the Circle of Magi look like a vacation.
Tallis: (sigh) Yes.
Anders: And you’re alright with that?
Tallis: It doesn’t make me believe in the Qun any less.
Anders: But you think it’s alright for them to sew up a mage’s mouth, or cut out his tongue.
Tallis: Right this second? I do. Yes.

Also you’ve got this conversation with Bethany (same vid, around the 9 min mark):

Tallis: So you’re Hawke’s sister.
Bethany: The mage who went away. (sigh) Yes.
Tallis: Many families have them.
Hawke: And are proud of them.
Tallis: It shows.

The way Tallis says “Many families have them”, like she’s consoling Bethany for even existing, makes me want to set the table upright and flip it again.
